to Drawing

Angus Galloway works between drawing, painting, installation and sound as his primary art practice. He received his undergraduate degree from Emory University. He attended Georgia State University for his M.F.A., where he concentrated on drawing and painting along with sound design. His work has been featured in national and international exhibitions as well as a variety of publications including Direct Art, New York Art, Art Papers, Burnaway, and Trigger Magazines. Galloway is a professor of drawing and painting at Vanderbilt University.

Projects

New Found Land

A Drawing residency at Gallery 72 in Atlanta GA, with over 120 feet of wall space to create a site-specific drawing installation based on my grandfathers warship from World War 2.

UN EARTH

Un Earth is a new body of work featuring different approaches to drawing and painting. Galloway’s work hints at new ideas that began – following his relocation to Nashville.

Findings

For these drawings I have implemented a Window Technique whereby I cover up the drawing so I can only work inside one small window or area at a time, allowing greater detail.

Left Right

Using both hands at the same time this series was a response to working with sound. The act of listening in binaural could that approach work in a drawing.

Line Series

For the drawings in this series I start by blindly activating the surface of the paper with transfer paper, and then slowly introduce a pattern.

Drawing Correspondence

Drawing Correspondence is a collaborative art project by Angus Galloway and Paul Rodecker. The artists became friends at Georgia State U.
